MCC is a global, nonprofit organization that strives to share God's love and compassion for all through relief, development and peace.
Bangladesh is one of the world's most densely populated countries with 160 million people crowded into a delta of rivers that empty into the Bay of Bengal. MCC has worked here since 1970, when it provided relief in the aftermath of a devastating tropical cyclone when approximately half a million people lost their lives.
Following the Liberation War and independence of Bangladesh in 1971, MCC provided emergency assistance to several institutions and affected communities. This developed into wide-ranging agriculture work promoting vegetable cultivation and work to create sustainable employment for rural women. Throughout the years MCC has continued this work - carrying out programs in agriculture, employment generation, education, peace and health, often working with partner organisations.
Today, MCC continues to work in Bangladesh through expatriate and national staff. We work together with churches and other partner organisations, striving towards sustainable communities where all people can live together in peace.
